Tips For Standing
![]() |
When standing, try to maintain the normal arches in your back at all times. Avoid high heels, which often cause the low back to arch excessively. The higher the heel, the greater the postural stress. Wear comfortable shoes with a good arch support. As much as possible you should stand level, with weight evenly distributed between both legs if you are standing for short durations. If you stand for long periods, shift positions frequently and rest one foot on a low stool or shelf to help take the strain off the lower back. If you cannot use a foot stool, stand squarely, balanced equally on both feet. You should always try to hold your head in the neutral position looking straight ahead. If standing while at work, try to keep your work close to you and at a comfortable height.
